Secretary's Award for Outstanding School Initiative

take over award

Liverpool Boys High School are once again recipients of the Secretary’s Award for Outstanding School Initiative. LBHS have received this award four years in a row, this year recognised for Take Over Two; a creative collaboration with Sydney Opera House. On the 5th September at Sydney Town Hall, we were presented the award by DoE Secretary, Murat Dizdar. This evening was filled with fabulous student performances and celebrations of excellence across the Department of Education.

More about Take Over Two:

Following the success of the 2019 pilot Take Over collaboration with Sydney Opera House SOH, Take Over returned to LBHS in 2022. 'Take Over Two' (TO2) was implemented to activate whole school change and make creativity the focus of what LBHS do. TO2 became the mechanism for teachers to think about and explore alternate ways of delivering curriculum. It was as much about changing staff practices as it was about the experiences of students. Teachers directed the program while also allowing students to take control of the learning. Up to 350 students were empowered to choose what they did each day, own the decision, and make it happen. This program sought to initiate whole school change constructed on the notion choices should be based on personal interests and passions; and school should be that platform for exploration of passion.
