In collaboration with Sydney Opera House, Liverpool Boys High School staged a ground breaking creative takeover. For three weeks the traditional school timetable was suspended and an entire building block of the school was dedicated to the “Take Over”.
In November 2019 regular lessons were replaced with an intense program of passion projects. 120 students from years 7 to 10 were involved, as were all our head teachers who were led by Frank Newman the Opera House’s Creative Learning specialist. Students were mentored by artists and Sydney Opera House staff in addition to head teachers to create a final product that was exhibited at the end of the three weeks.
Using skills developed via the Project Based Learning framework, the school has already adopted, and students became accountable for their own learning and were able to explore their own creativity in a flexible environment. This project garnered lots of interest from national and local media networks. LBHS is leading the way in education as curriculums as innovative and creative have not been implemented in our school before.
